My Brother - A poem by 12-year-old Kai

My brother who tosses rhythm and rhyme like sunshine

and asks what will I do

who is a rock and sugar

who is a lion and snowflake

whose voice is the ocean

is too independent to put his thoughts away

who tells me to stand up for myself

who tells me don't be someone else

Whose brain is constantly changing

goes to sleep all day

surfs and enjoys to play

who puts meaning in every word he says

is away

is a monkey in the jungle

is a rider of the crashing waves

is in a tent upon the sand

who talks to me in his dreams

is baggy pants and shaggy hair and part of the land

who goes boom boom ch again and again

is the water on the river that flows through life

asking what can I do

what should I do to help the world
